EQUIPMENT
Here we describe the minimum equipment you need to get started.
This section will grow in time in order to give a comprehensive list. We apologize if
we forget any trivial issue... Who doesn' t?!
- The Boat:
- We strongly suggest a semi-rigid inflatable-boat,
i.e. a rubber dinghy.
The main reasons
are:
- high capacity of supporting weight;
- speed;
- unsinkability.
- The boat has to be equipped with the main engine and with a
supplementary one (the latter can be omitted if more then one boat are
going for the trip).
- Calculate carefully the need of petrol and remember the ancient latin
proverb ``melius abundare quam deficere'' (better too much than not enough).
- Do not forget to keep a FIRST AID KIT in the boat.
- Leave in the boat a few litres of water for emergency.
- Instruments:
- Compass. Since the navigation in mainly by the coast, we consider
a GPS unnecessary.
- VHF or GSM-Mobile. One or the other is compulsory for emergency, and,
why not, to chat with mates in the other boat.
- Radio. This will be useful, in case you decide
to go for the Mobile, to listen the Nautical Bulletin.
- Camping utensils:
- Tent. Preferably very light and extremely quick to set.
- Slipping bag. Though the season for the nautical camping
is the summer, during a damp night by the sea you will miss it.
- Gas cooker. A warm meal is necessary, and a hot caffee
in the middle of the sea is priceless.
- Gas lamp. Do we need to say why?
- Refrigerator bag. You need to keep your food cool, when
the temperature is around 35-40 degrees. And in a long sunny day you
would die for a ice-cold Coke (I'm sure, I would).
- Water. Extra, from the drinking water, you
need some for washing up the dishes (NOT IN THE SEA, PLEASE!!) and
for a quick shower.
